Why would I post something so dismal and despondent as my post, You can't change the world? Well, my first reason is because it's a real conclusion I've come to in my life - and back on my first post of this blog I said this was going to be the the realest blog I ever wrote - which means, I believe that what I wrote in that depressing post is the truth. So, although I consider myself an optimist and am generally positive - I'm also a realist and want real solutions. The second reason I wrote that post is what I mentioned in that post - I need to get it out in the open, before I can move forward.
So, let's move forward. Once I came to the conclusion that I can't change the world - I thought now what? With that conclusion behind me now, what can I do to make the world better? I think there are two ways in which you can improve the world.
One, be good. Simple. Be friendly and helpful. Don't be fake - be yourself, just be a nice person. As I say this - I feel like I'm teaching. I'm not - I'm writing this for my own sake more than anybody else's. I need to work on being good, nice, friendly, and helpful. This is a minuscule improvement on the world - but it is improvement. Like I said, I like real solutions - and I really do think this is a real solution. Try to be the best person you can be. The best friend, the best husband, the best father, the best worker, the best volunteer, whatever it is you're doing - do the best you can.
And just to backtrack to my last post a little where I was almost criticizing volunteers, donors, and charities - one way you might find to be a good person is to volunteer or donate time or money to help someone else. Just don't expect that it is going to change the cause on a grand scale - there will always be those human qualities that we cannot change.
Two, invent, discover, or create something. The other way to make the world better is to bring something new to the table that will increase the quality of life dramatically. That can be anything from writing a novel to creating a new web app to building a spacecraft. But, that is how you can have a large impact on the world.
Those are the two ways, I can think of, to improve the world.
