In my last post I stated that we need improvement rather than change. I want to go a little more into what I've been thinking about. This post is on the topic of how I came to the conclusion that we shouldn't want change. I'll forewarn that this post is depressing - but I need to get this out in the open, before I can move forward.
I've been thinking about changing the world - how do we change the world? Well, I've come to the conclusion that you can't just "change" the world. What I mean - is that we're humans and you can't change human nature. No matter how much you try and nurture - you can't reach every person and some will always slip through the cracks.
So as humans, we're going to kill each other, rape each other, hate each other, be at war with each other - until the end of time. There is always going to be homelessness, poverty, crime, and disease. There's nothing you can do to change it. These things have been going on since the beginning of time - and there's nothing anybody can do to stop that.
There are people out there trying to help. There are thousands of charities and non-profits setup for each one of these things and thousands of volunteers spending thousands of hours and thousands of donors donating thousands of dollars. And they do help - a person here, a person there. At the end of the day - there's still murders, rapes, hate, homelessness, poverty, crime, disease. All of these people helping and it's still here. There's no changing it.
These problems will always exist and I think it's foolish to think that they won't.
So yes, it took me this long to come to that conclusion. Most kids can tell you that much by the time they're 10 years old, but I'm (overly) optimistic - so it took me a little longer.
