I think some of us who have read and feel up-to-speed about productivity and GTD and are doing our weekly reviews sometimes fall into a trap. The trap is the Perfect Task List. What I mean by that is that we'll make our task lists so perfect that we don't want to touch them.
I do my weekly reviews on Friday afternoon. During that review I will sculpt and mend my project lists. I will add and subtract tasks and add due dates and tags to them. I will go through and add notes and subtasks and supporting documentation to the tasks. I will make it perfect. When I leave the office Friday, I feel great about where all of my projects and tasks sit.
Sometimes, I feel so good that when I come in on Monday, I don't want to chip away at my task list. Once I start crossing stuff off, I've started ruining the beauty of thing that took me so long on Friday afternoon to create. The thing I felt so great about when I left on Friday - now I'm destroying it.
We have to keep in mind that our project and task lists are just that. They're lists of our tasks. They're a tool for us to stay organized and help us get real work done. Nothing more. Go in on Monday ready to destroy that task list.
